DECLICS Action 2025, Researchers-High School Students Meeting

Lycée Jean-Perrin, January 16, 2025

At the initiative of Ms. Nathalie Ferran, teacher at Lycée Jean-Perrin in Marseille, and with the support of the DECLICS association and CINAM, a meeting between AMU researchers and high school seniors specializing in Physics and Chemistry was held on January 16, 2025, at Lycée Jean-Perrin. Twelve researchers, including lecturers, research engineers, and PhD students from various laboratories (ICR, CINaM, IM2NP, IBDM, PIIM, and INT), covering a wide range of scientific fields (Chemistry, Physics, Biotechnology, Materials, Instrumentation, Animal Biology), participated in this event. The students had the opportunity to engage with the speakers through “speed-meetings.” The enthusiasm in the discussions helped bridge the gap between students and the research world, inspiring new vocations in scientific careers.

Speakers: Nathalie Ferran (organizer, Lycée Jean-Perrin), Anthony Kermagoret (Associate Professor, CINaM, co-organizer), Frederic Bedu (Research Engineer, CNRS, CINaM), Anne-Doriane Manick (Researcher, CNRS, ICR), Kamel Mabrouk (Research Engineer, CNRS, ICR), Sylvain Marque (Professor, ICR), Yasmine Belaidouni (Researcher, IBDM), Benjamin Prud’Homme (Professor, IBDM), Hugo Raveton (PhD student, IBDM), Aurika Janulyte (Associate Professor, PIIM), Pauline Bennet (Associate Professor, IM2NP), Marc Bescond (Senior Researcher, CNRS, IM2NP), Marcel Carrere (Professor, INT).

"Hippocampus" internship with middle school students

“Hippocampus” internships are introductory research internships in science, structured as project-based learning over three days, organized by IRES, including mathematics, physics, and chemistry.

A research question is proposed to middle school students, who must explore potential solutions. They have two days to understand the problem and experiment. On the third day, they must prepare a poster and present it to various visitors, like in a conference.

The group supervised by Séverine Girard Queyroy developed an experimental protocol to create a ‘chemical bar’.

ICR researchers help identify whitening molecules dangerous to babies’ skin

Dr. Kamel Mabrouk and his team (CROPS) helped journalists from TV5 Monde in their investigation “For a skin color”. In particular, they identified whitening molecules dangerous for the skin of babies contained in cosmetic products marketed for skin depigmentation. A decried but widespread practice.
